susan's musings:

goddesses galore

So we happen to be Glastonbury, England during the annual Goddess Conference – how perfect as we are a group of 7 Goddesses (the two “gods” who are with us would certainly agree!)

Yesterday (Thursday) we woke up at 3:45 a.m. and headed over to Stonehenge for a 5 a.m. private visit inside the stone circle. It was just the nine of us to welcome the sun rise through the stones. It was a scene out of the movies. The mists (of Avalon!) made the surrounding hills look like they were covered by the sea. It was cool and quiet – just the bleeting of the sheep on the grass a few yards away. The moon was just two days after the full moon (there must be a name for that but I don’t know it). The moon and sun were both visible and created an astonishing vision. As we meandered in and out of the stones we caught the suns rays from many angles and imagined what it was like for the Druids and Celts and all other ancient civilizations who had the honor of living and working near Stonehenge.

I’ve traveled a lot. I’ve seen many beautiful sites and have had wonderful experiences all over the world. I’ve been to the Acropolis in Greece, the Pyramids in Giza, Mt. Sinai in the Egyptian desert, The Oracle in Dephi, Greece, Sophia Mosque in Istanbul, Petra in Jordan…but standing in Stonehenge at sunrise was one of the highlights of my travels. Maybe even number one. The earth. The stones. The sun and moon. The group. We all shared something extraordinary that we still haven’t been able to put into words. (We do have lots of photos that I’ll post soon.)

Oh my…from the crop circles to Stonehenge and now the sacred sites in Glastonbury – which has a completely different vibrational energy. We visited Chalice Well today and had such a glorious experience. The weather is warm and sunny and the Well is a beautiful oasis of flowers and grass and of course, the spring that has been providing this healing water for centuries. We all put our feet into the freezing cold water for “healing” (I didn’t have anything particular thing in mind to heal – but I figured it couldn’t hurt!), and we drank from the spring. I found a lovely wooden bench to sit on and meditate and write in my journal. Some things became startling clear to me in this sacred space. I guess that’s what they are for.

Later we climbed the Tor of Glastonbury – the last clergyman who was there in the 1500′s hung himself. The energy was kind of odd but the view was gorgeous. We had to climb up about 500 feet to reach the top of the Tor but it was worth it. We had a good time in the sun and green fields which look over practically all of England. We could so far south that the sea was visible.

I think the group felt we had done quiet a bit of physical exercise today – so we spent most of the late afternoon eating! A delightful cafe called Heaphy’s in the main part of town became our hangout for maybe 3 hours – we kind of spread out on the tables outdoors and acted quite American – we had a ball. We were there long enough for a late afternoon coffee and snack…and then dinner!

Back at the B&B we stayed up late tonight telling stories and sharing life expereinces. And laughing. So much laughter! It’s now 11:45 p.m. and I’ve got to get a goodnight’s rest. On Saturday we are going to expereince Arthur’s Castle and Camelot. then back to Glastonbury for some spiritual shopping. (you could drop breathe books down here and it woul fit right in perfectly).

so good night. more anon…
