Ayurveda Cooking Class: Ease into Fall, as Vata sets in
Thursday, September 6, 6:30 – 9 pm
In Ayurveda, seasons are the time of transition and the change from summer to fall can be especially challenging. Fall and early winter are Vata season (air and space) which means the elements are volatile – cold one day, warm the next, windy than humid, wet than dry. How do we stay sane with all the change? Simplify the diet, eat warm foods that easily nourish the mind and body, and prepare as much as you can in advance. I will teach you several Vata-reducing recipes as well as many Ayurvedic suggestions for staying grounded and focused. Cost: $55. Materials and recipes will be provided.

Breathe Ayurveda Study Course Begins October 1, 2019
Hello All!

Ayurveda Beginner's GuideI’m so excited that we have so much interest in this course. In the 10 years since I began practicing and teaching Ayurveda, the knowledge of this ancient wisdom has become so much more prevalent in our society. You can buy triphala at CVS, ashwagandha infused tea at Wegman’s, and your yoga teacher might be able to tell you your dosha!

It’s very exciting to see the evolution of Ayurveda, but with all this new-found popularity comes misinformation, unnecessary treatments, consultants offering dubious advice, and all-around confusion.

It’s no wonder you are interested in learning more because you want to really know – What is Ayurveda? How can it help me? How can I help others? How can I learn more?

There are Ayurvedic Colleges and courses all over the world and online, that offer Ayurveda_260_05_fnl4certifications and great wisdom. When the proposal was brought up to me to teach a course I put a lot of thought and research into it and thought about – what is it that people want that might not be readily available?

Not everyone wants or needs a certification course. Not everyone can pick up and move somewhere for months at a time to study.  Some people just want a guided study program that will enrich their lives and the lives of those around them. A deep dive into the well of Ayurveda, without deadline pressures, quizzes, tests, presentations or final exams. A class for the curious as well as those who want to deepen their own practice and perhaps go on to earn certifications, to teach, or to be a consultant.

Foot massageWith that in mind I am creating a course that will show you every aspect of Ayurveda, from historical knowledge and perspective, how the ancient techniques are applied today, practicum classes in cooking, using spices and food as medicine, how to read the pulses, tongue diagnoses, marma therapy, Sanskrit, dinacharya techniques (creating your daily routine), the doshas and how they play a role in our everyday world, and more. The classes will contain metaphysical as well as practical information, as we will also address the use of  crystals and gem stones, meditation, essential oils, pranayama, Vastu (Vedic Feng Shui) and more in Ayurveda.

The course also includes a weekend meditation and cooking retreat at Fox Haven Farm in Frederick date TBD.

Class size is limited to 12 people to ensure individualized attention and rewarding group interaction. If you feel this is for you, a deposit of $500 will hold your place. Contact me for payment details. The course will being in October . I anticipate our monthly meeting to take place on a weeknight, 6 pm – 9 pm, depending on the needs of the group.

In addition, when you sign up for the course, you can schedule a private consultation with me, and you can get a 10% discount on my next trip to India in late 2019. And you will get a free copy of my book!

I will be finalizing the details including guest teachers, the reading list, the format, the timeline and the price, in the coming weeks. I estimate the cost will be between $2800 – $3500 (plus the cost of books)  depending on the teachers I am able to bring in (such as Ayurvedic cookbook author Amadea Morningstar and Vastu Master Michael Mastro)  – but I just wanted you to have an idea. I see this as a 12-month program, meeting once a month in person my home classroom and teaching kitchen, in Reisterstown, and bi-weekly online video meetings. We will also have a private chat group for ongoing support.

In addition to this course, you might be interested in a few offerings from The Chopra Center, one of the places where I received my Ayurvedic certifications. This is the Primordial Sound meditation course:

Both of these will support the teachings I will be offering. These are not in any way required, but you might really enjoy them.

It is so wonderful to have you on this journey with me as we create the first ever Breathe Ayurveda Study Course! Please stay in touch with your questions and thoughts. I will be in touch again soon!

Much love and gratitude,

Susan

Israel! December 2018
I came across this quote the other day from the late, great Anthony Bourdain, about his visit to Israel in 2013:   “Whatever you may think, and whatever baggage you bring to this place, you should see this.”
Israel 2018 trip
And I thought – exactly.

Israel is a place that must be seen – not only to try and understand the politics, the draw and deep desire of so many people to be there, but to see how much beauty can fit into a country the size of New Jersey!

The vastness of the desert and the sea, the sumptuous beauty of the mountains and forests, the richness of the culture and the people, the diversity of the food and art, the ancient and the modern – you simply must see it to believe it!

f1582690-city-35098-55b63450The land is steeped in a mysterious spirituality that touches just about everyone. Join my husband Larry and me on this trip of a lifetime. We will be guided by Jared Goldfarb, whose expertise in Israel includes a multi-cultural viewpoint, which makes this trip different from most others. As you will see by the itinerary, you don’t need to be Jewish to take this trip. We will explore all facets of this marvelous country through open eyes and an open heart. I want to help you, not only to see the beauty, but to understand the difficulties as well. And at the same time, to bask in the immensity of this sacred space.

I lived in Israel from 1985 – 1996, with a few years in Washington DC at the Israeli Embassy. I have a unique perspective of Israel that can only come from living there, and I will share that with you.

Email me at susan@breatheayurveda.com or call me at 410-979-2096 if you have any questions. The tour is carefully curated to offer the best accommodations, the most interesting sites, time for rest and relaxation, and, or course, time to shop and eat!
