Spices and herbsThe ancient India system of health and well-being, Ayurveda, recognizes that food is the best medicine. And food is seasonal! Typically in colder seasons we crave soups, cooked foods, heavier stews and warming tonics. In Summer we want cooler foods and drink, raw or lightly cooked vegetables, coconuts, cool juices. What should we eat in the Spring? 

Spring is Kapha (earth and water elements) season in Ayurveda – the ground is heavier andDSC_8436 wet with rains, foliage begins to bloom, the atmosphere becomes heavier with pollen, the days get longer. This can cause allergies, colds, excess phlegm, headaches, and lethargy. 

Ayurveda believes in using opposites to balance the season and the doshas – your mind-body constitution. So in Spring, we want to eat lighter foods that help us balance excess fluid, warm us up – but not too much, and help us to shed any winter weight we naturally put on. 

ayurveda-rising1391003144In this class you will learn recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner to help you feel lighter and more energetic. We will also create spice mixes – churnas – to balance your dosha – you can take this churnas with you when you eat out to help you digest your food and keep you balanced. Bring a container for leftovers and a glass jar or spice jar to take home your churna.
